Last week the Volkswagen brand recieved the award "Most Innovative Volume Brand" from the Center of Automotive Management (CAM). The established industry award was presented at a gala in Frankfurt to Stefan Gies, Head of Passenger Car Chassis Development at Volkswagen. In addition, Volkswagen recieved two further awards as the most innovative brand in the categories "Interface & Connectivity" and "Autonomous Driving & Safety".

According to a study by CAM in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), this year the Volkswagen brand was the most progressive volume brand once again. This meant that the carmaker from Wolfsburg was able to successfuly defend it's position from the previous year, For years, the study AutomotiveINNOVATIONS has identified the future trends and innovation profiles of different car brands based on technical vehicle innovations. In the official justification for this year's award, CAM and PwC stated: "With 60 seperate innovations Volkswagen is by far the most innovative volume brand. Highly rated features include Trailer Assist, which is available for the Golf and Tiguan for the first time, and also a worldwide innovation in the respective segments."

The current CAM study also emphasises that the innovative strength of the Volkswagen brand lies in the category "Interface & Connectivity" among others and provides the following justification for this: "For the first time in this class gesture control is available for the infotainment systems of the Golf update, enabling intuitive operation. In addition, innovations such as the Doorbird app, where the car can connect with the home intercom system, led to the success of the Volkswagen brand in this category."

According to the CAM study, the Volkswagen brand also confirmed its pioneering role in the field of "Autonomous Driving & Safety". "With 'Side Assist Plus', the Tiguan is the first vehicle in its segment to feature an active asistance package that monitors the blind spot among other features. Furthermore, Rear Traffic Alert can alert the driver to approaching vehicles and also brake autonomously should the driver fail to react."

The Center of Automotive Managment in Bergisch-Gladbach (D) under the direction of Professor Stefan Bratzel is an indepedent scientific institute for empirical automotive and mobility research. It has conferred awards to the most innovative car manufacturers of the year for a number of years in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Sixty global car brands were considered for this year's analysis.

On the evening before the Geneva International Motor Show the Volkswagen Group traditionally presents its highlights. With the world première of the T-ROC concept car the Volkswagen brand is giving a preview of a possible SUV range. The striking features of the concept car include its progressive design, the front section with the LED headlights and two removable roof halves.

With the Tiguan and Touareg Volkswagen has in its model range two of the most successful SUVs (sports utility vehicles) of European origin. In the future, Germany's largest car manufacturer will be expanding this spectrum appreciably with new models in a variety of classes. Coming up at the Geneva International Motor Show (4th to 16th March): the world première of the T-ROC, a Golf-format concept car positioned a step down from the Tiguan. Following the CrossBlue (USA), CrossBlue Coupé (China) and also Taigun (India) concept cars, Volkswagen is once again giving a look ahead to possible future SUV models.

The T-ROC follows a new design line and interior style, with the progressive design of the front section being particularly striking. The two-door vehicle also combines the talents of an all-wheel drive SUV - which doesn't capitulate even when faced with rocky off-road tracks - with the summery airiness of a convertible. The middle section of the roof consists of two halves that with just a few flicks can be taken off and stowed in the boot. Front and rear cameras, which are backed up in the dark by LED headlights, extend the driver's field of vision.

Powered by a 135 kW / 184 PS turbo-diesel direct injection engine, the T-ROC is equipped with three different driving modes: 'Street', 'Off-road' and 'Snow'. The parameters of the 4Motion drive train, 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch gearbox), ABS, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control vary depending on the mode selected. The 2.0 TDI engine's fuel consumption is a low 4.9 l/100 km, while maximum torque is 380 Nm.

The vehicle body has been designed based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB). Thanks to lightweight construction the SUV weighs just 1,420 kg. Visually striking features include the relatively short overhangs and the multi-part 19-inch alloy wheels with size 245/45 tyres.

The occupant cell is the space in your car containing the driver and passengers. It forms a rigid safety cage and in contrast to the crumple zones of the car body, it is not easily deformed. It is designed to protect the survival space of occupants in accidents up to a certain severity of impact. We use measures such as crash tests to continually improve the safety of our occupant cells.

The Tiguan continues its success story in the latest generation, which has been on the market since last year. This substantiated by the Tiguan being one of the three finalists in this year's "World Car of the Year" Award. The successful model has not only won over the international trade press, however but also customers. More than 300,000 Tiguan models have been ordered since they became available in 2016.

The Tiguan is one of the most important models of the Volkswagen brand and stands for a successful SUV offensive. The first generation of the Tiguan started in 2007 and quickly developed into a bestseller. Today, it is produced in four countries (China, Germany, Mexico and Russia) and sold in 170 markets. After ten years, it is an integral part of the street scene with 3.5 million vehicles sold around the globe. Volkswagen builds on the successes of its predecessor with the new model and offers a Tiguan to suit every need, depending on the country.

For example, the range has been extended with the Tiguan Allspace, the new version for Europe. Sale of this new Tiguan, longer by over 20 centimetres, starts in mid-May. The Tiguan Allspace has much more space for luggage and up to seven passengers. In addition, it offers impressive variability and an extended range of standard features compared to the previous Tiguan. China already has its local version of the Tiguan Allspace available; the more spacious model will be introduced into the market in America later this year.
